Knitting group helps poorly babies

Clothing is being knitted to help poorly babies keep warm by a new arts and crafts group.

People living at Riverview Apartments in Mirfield get together each week to knit hats, coats and other items for sick and premature babies.

The idea was suggested by Malcolm Deane, who lives at the apartments for people aged over 55 on Southbrook Gardens, Mirfield.

Mr Deane said: “I said, ‘Why don’t you take up knitting?’. It started the day after and it went knitting barmy after that.

“We set up Riverside Apartments Arts and Crafts Group. They meet every Friday.

“They make hats, coats, babygrows, all for babies that have been born prematurely.”
