Hide AdInsp Granville Sellers of British Transport Police said: “The victim, a 33 year old man from North Yorkshire, was stood outside the station between the entrance door and the taxi office talking on the phone to his girlfriend.
“He turned around and saw a man coming towards him in an angry manner clutching a knife in his hand. The man raised the knife up as he came towards the victim then as he came within half a foot of the victim abruptly broke off his approach.
“It is possible the assailant may have been distracted by a group of people entering the station. He then walked passed the victim, into the station and across the footbridge exiting in the direction of Eightlands Road.
“Understandably the victim has been left extremely shocked and shaken up. Fortunately these types of incidents are extremely rare but it is vital that we trace this man as soon as possible.
“If you recognise the man pictured, please contact us.”
