Kirklees smokers urged to ditch the cigs this Stoptober


Thousands of people will be taking part in the 28-day quitting challenge from Public Health England which started on October 1.
Last year saw the highest recorded success rate, up from just 13.6 per cent six years ago, and reflects the high number of people using quitting aids including e-cigs and licensed nicotine replacement products such as patches or gum.

Hide AdCouncillor Viv Kendrick, cabinet member for adults, health and activity to improve health, said: “The number of smokers in England has hit a record low.
“We want this trend to continue so the next generation in Kirklees can grow up in a smoke-free environment, where smoking is seen as unusual.
“Quitting isn’t easy, but you’ll find a range of advice and support to help you.
“Quitting is the best thing you’ll ever do for your health, for your family and it will save you money.”

Hide AdThe biggest decreases in smoking over the last four years can be seen in Yorkshire and Humber with the figure rising to 21.9 per cent.
Dr David Kelly, Chair of NHS North Kirklees Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Stoptober provides an opportunity to inspire smokers in Kirklees to quit.”
