Kirklees Council gives green light to LDF

GREEN belt land in North Kirklees has been sacrificed by councillors under its Local Development Framework.

At last night’s extraordinary council meeting, Lib Dem and Labour members voted to allow 42 hectares at Cooper Bridge to be given up for industrial development, and 35 hectares at Chidswell in Dewsbury to be given up for industry, with more land given up for 500 homes.

The Tories voted against the plans, as did Labour councillor Paul Kane (Dewsbury East) and Green Party leader Coun Andrew Cooper (Newsome).

Impassioned pleas to save the green belt came from 18 objectors – but councillors were chastised by Mayor Eric Firth, who told them members of the public had requested they pay more attention to objectors, and stop tweeting.
