Kirklees Council could net £500,000 from sale of plots

Kirklees Council could net up to half-a-million pounds when it auctions off two of its plots next month.

Two plots in our district are to go under the hammer – one in Batley and one in Dewsbury – along with five others elsewhere in Kirklees.

Dryfield House in Healey Lane, Batley, has the heftiest price tag of them all with guide price of £300,000-£350,000.

It is described as a character period property and heritage asset and has planning permission for change of use from offices to flats and outline consent for seven houses in the grounds.

Dryfield House was the home of Michael Sheard, a textile manufacturer based at Hick Lane Mill, and later John Sheard, who was his son and a Mayor of Batley.

The former Dewsbury Register Office in Wellington Street is listed with a guide price of £95,000. It already has planning consent for conversion into four flats.

Kirklees made the application in September 2013 in a bid to tempt commuters into the town. The stone building had served as the register office for North Kirklees until the service moved to Dewsbury Town Hall in autumn 2012.

The auction is on September 11 in Ainley Top.
