Kirklees College honours volunteers

Students and staff at Kirklees College have been presented with awards for helping in the community.

KC Volunteer, a scheme which promotes charity and voluntary work in college, held its second annual awards ceremony at the college’s Huddersfield Centre.

Certificates were presented for fundraising for charities including the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal, Meningitis Now, Children in Need, Martin House Children’s Hospice, Make Some Noise and Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice.

Students also carried out voluntary work for organisations including Talk English, Home Start, Welcome to Huddersfield, AFC Emley, Canal and Riverside Trust, Oxfam and Girlguiding UK.

Prizes were presented by the college principal Peter McCann.

Sharon Morgan, project manager for KC Volunteer at the college, said: “Our aim is to encourage as many staff and students to be involved in the community through volunteering.

“It was great to celebrate so many successful stories.

“We look forward to holding many more celebrations in future.”
