KFC robbery attempt update – getaway car found burnt out.

As reported on our website yesterday (Monday) two men, one armed with a knife, the other with a handgun, tried to rob a security guard as he collected cash from the fried chicken restaurant at Birstall’s junction 27.

Police say the men, who were wearing balaclavas, broke into the guard’s secure office and threatened him for the money at around 12.30pm. No-one was injured.

The men ran away empty handed when the dye mechanism on the cash box went off and got into a white BMW, which was driven by a third man.

A police spokesman said the car had been stolen from an address in Headingley, Leeds, overnight on Sunday.

It was found burnt out in Moorside Walk, Drighlington, yesterday and the handgun was found in the garden of a nearby property.

A spokeswoman for KFC said: “We were very concerned to hear of this incident at our Birstall restaurant as we take the safety of our staff and customers very seriously. Fortunately no staff or customers were injured and the store was temporarily closed while we assisted police with their investigations.”
