IT was standing room only for a small charity’s fundraising fashion show.

Volunteer models took to the catwalk at Batley’s Frontier club to help Mirfield-based ESCAYP, which helps young people with emotional problems.

And now the charity is gearing up for another stylish fund-raiser to celebrate its second birthday and bring in much-needed cash.

ESCAYP (Emotional Support for Children and Young People) has no formal funding and relies on its 30 or so volunteers and fund-raising.

The Frontier show last Wednesday attracted more than 200 people and raised over £800.

Charity founder Jackie Bould said: “It was amazing. We were stunned by the number who turned up.”

To celebrate ESCAYP’s second birthday, the charity is hosting a meal on October 15 at the Lakeside Restaurant in Ponderosa Park, Heckmondwike.

Diners will be greeted with Bucks Fizz and the meal will be followed by a raffle and disco.

Tickets cost £23 from Jackie Bould on 07977 471126 or by emailing [email protected].

Trained nurse Jackie started the charity after deciding she wanted to help children and young people in West Yorkshire.

Counselling and therapeutic play is free for those aged three to 21 - subject to a referral - and covers a wide range of issues such as abuse, bereavement and bullying.

“We are very busy with lots of referrals,” said Jackie. “We are holding back the floodgates due to the funding issue. This service is needed and we work alongside other agencies to help those in need.

“We say a huge thank-you to everyone who has supported us.”

Details of the charity’s work are on its website www.escayp.org.uk.
