Join Dewsbury Road Runners for the Flat Cap Five in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance

The fourth annual Flat Cap Five race, pioneered by Dewsbury Road Runners, is expected to attract 150 competitors on Wednesday July 30.

Organiser Tony Audsley said: “It’s coming along fine and everything’s in place. We’re hoping for a decent turnout if the weather holds out.

“And it might attract new members to the club.”

Participants are encouraged to don typical Yorkshire headgear and the best flat cap will receive a prize.

The race will begin at the Leggers pub, in Mill Street East, Dewsbury, and will continue along the greenway, past the Earlsheaton tunnel and then cross country by the Kerry Food factory and towards Ossett.

The five-mile race will raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, the Reporter Series’ chosen charity for this year.

The charity provides a rapid response to five million people across the county and requires £9,900 each day to keep its two helicopters in the air.

Last year the Flat Cap Five race raised £550 for charity and attracted more than 100 competitors, including five Reporter Series staff.

Entry to this year’s race is £5 for club runners and £7 for everyone else.

It will set off from the Leggers pub at 7pm.
