The Traveller’s Rest, on Hopton Lane, closed on Monday for four weeks to undergo a major transformation to improve the look and feel of the pub.

The pub, which is owned by Punch taverns, is expected to re-open mid-April with jobs created in the bar, kitchen and restaurant.

New licensee Alex Stratford, who took on the pub in February with her partner Chris Cullen, said: “Chris and I are both from Mirfield and have spent many evenings in this pub when we were younger with our families.

“The pub has the facilities for serving food and as Chris is a qualified chef we wanted to maximise on this and create a range of honest, home-made pub food made from quality ingredients.

“There will be major work conducted throughout the pub and will be modernised whilst retaining a cosy feel echoing the homely and rural aspect to the pub.

“The plans look fantastic; we will be offering the community something different and a range of facilities to suit all.”

Punch Taverns’ partnership development manager, Dave Watson, said: “It’s great that Punch can invest in their pubs and we essentially want to reposition the Traveller’s Rest as one of the leading pubs that can provide great drinks and quality dining for residents in Mirfield and the surrounding areas.”
