It’s time to muck in!

Dewsbury Regeneration Board has secured funding from Kirklees Council for further improvement works to a greenway link between Mill Street West and Wilton Road.

The path overlooks a stretch of the River Calder which the board hopes will become an area with bustling cafes and shops.

Board chairman Coun Paul Kane said: “We’re forging ahead with our ideas.

“If the community is behind this, then it really starts generating momentum.”

The Dewsbury Wharfe plans revealed in last week’s Reporter have been a talking point on our Facebook page.

Jason Batley said: “How many times have we seen plans like this or similar only to be still kept waiting?”

Ash Milnes said: “I’d gladly welcome any investment in Dewsbury, but shouldn’t we concentrate on filling the 60+ empty shops we have?”

But Ray Brace said: “Can’t understand why anybody would be against a positive improvement for the town.”

Helen Garrett said: “If it works as well as it has done in Bristol then it would be a great idea!”

Coun Kane (Lab, Dews East) appealed for local people and businesses to get involved by volunteering to help clear up the waterfront area.

He said: “This will show the mettle of the people of Dewsbury and see it they want to improve the environment in our town. Any hours people can put in would be welcome.”
