Sarah Helena Binns was struck by a Ford Ka as she crossed the A653 Dewsbury Road, near Woodkirk, at 12.10am on Sunday, November 10.

An inquest in Wakefield yesterday heard that Miss Binns, of Ridgeway Drive, Birstall, had attended a wedding celebration at Woodkirk Valley Country Club and was walking with her fiance.

Coroner David Hinchliff said: “According to information received Miss Binns crossed the Batley bound carriageway with her fiancé who was a little in front of her. She stepped onto the Leeds bound carriageway and she was struck by a motor vehicle that was travelling in lane two nearest the central reservation.”

Miss Binns, who worked at Tesco in Batley, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where she died from her injuries at 11.40am.

The inquest was adjourned to allow for further investigations from West Yorkshire Police.
