Ideas shared for old market revival
Members of Dewsbury Town Team were asked to suggest how Market Place might be redeveloped.
Vice chairman Andrew Hutchinson said: “We came up with proposals that the Town Team would like to see. The main thing is we want a flexible space. We want to open it up so they can have crafts stalls or a farmers’ market.”

Others suggested replacing benches with vandal-proof granite blocks or moving some of the cast iron frameworks elsewhere in the town centre.
Mr Hutchinson said one idea was to use glass columns to depict scenes of how Market Place looked when viewed from that point in the past.
Others potential ideas were to create an area with stands or a small amphitheatre for performances, ice skating at Christmas or a water feature similar to the one in St George’s Square, Huddersfield.

Other projects being undertaken by the volunteers involved in Town Team are a book giveaway for World Book Night, a gardening project and a photographic competition.
The competition, which is still in the planning stages, will be a celebration of the town centre.
