“I am so proud to be her mum”

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, Huddersfield, now supports more than 100 families across West Yorkshire.

Dawn Thompson, from Thornhill, praised the support she received for her daughter, Lucy, who has quadriplegic cerebral palsy, a condition that affects the muscles and left her dependent on a wheelchair.

Lucy also suffers from epilepsy, visual impairment and global developmental delay.

Dawn said: “I am her full time carer and in return she is my inspiration.

“She has taught me so much about life and I am so proud to be her Mum. In her eight short years she has brought joy and understanding into so many people’s lives, much more than I alone could ever achieve in my entire lifetime.”

She said the hospice had helped her family in many ways and allowed her to have a break from her caring responsibilities.

“The hospice has taken the time to get to know Lucy and all of her ‘little ways’.

“I do not know what the future holds but I do know that every moment with Lucy is special.

“With the help of the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice we are able to make new and wonderful memories with every precious day that we have - memories that we will cherish forever.”
