They said they were delighted that almost 800 people have signed up – but they would like to see even more people taking part. The walk on Saturday, June 22 is the hospice’s biggest annual event.

It raises vital funds for the provision of free, specialist palliative care, for those facing life-limiting illnesses.

Kirkwood fundraiser Emily Kennedy said: “The Midnight Memory Walk is a great way to meet new people, share memories of loved ones and to take on a new challenge, all whilst raising money for a great cause.”

Walkers raised more than £66,000 for the charity at the 2012 event.

This year’s walk, supported by Syngenta and AM Recruitment, sets off from the John Smith’s Stadium in Huddersfield. Participants can choose to complete a six or 10 mile.

Walkers are invited to come along from 10.30pm to soak up the entertainment and party atmosphere. All participants receive a medal and a commemorative T-Shirt, which can be personalised, and glow sticks to light the way. There will be bacon butties and hot chocolate at the finish. Registration costs £10 per person or £5 for under 16s. Sign up via www.kirkwoodhospice.co.uk, call 01484 557911 for a registration form or more information, or visit your local hospice shop.
