Hundreds join Chidswell march against LDF plan

HUNDREDS of protesters took to the streets this weekend as the fight to protect green belt land in Chidswell intensified.

The march by Chidswell Action Group was in opposition to plans for 500 homes and 35 hectares of industrial development off the A653 Leeds Road.

The proposals are part of Kirklees Council’s Local Development Framework (LDF), which outlines how it would bring thousands of new jobs and homes to the district by 2028.

Organisers estimated more than 1,200 people took part in Saturday’s march, which was also supported by Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell and some councillors.
