Hot-foot it to Fire and Ice challenge

Billed as the ‘challenge of a lifetime’, the Society for the Blind’s summer fundraiser just got even more daring.

People flocked to the society last year to take on the challenge of walking on burning embers to raise money for the charity.

This year it’s going one step further, and calling people to walk on ice as well.

But if anyone is thinking this doesn’t sound too taxing, there is bad news – the ‘ice’ is actually crushed glass.

The Fire and Ice Walk will be held at the Society’s Whitfield Centre in Soothill Lane, Batley, on September 10 from 5.30pm.

Fundraising manager Kate Holdsworth said: “It will be the shortest sponsored walk to ever complete – 20ft of hot embers or crushed glass should only take around eight steps.

“Many walkers comment on feeling exhilarated after completing the walk, more confident and proud that they have overcome a fear.”

Anyone interested in doing the walk or sponsoring it can contact Kate on 01924 445222 or at [email protected].
