Hospital duo retiring after four decades

For the past 39 years, they have cared for local people through their work as healthcare assistants on Dewsbury and District Hospital’s surgical ward.

Last Thursday they were joined by dozens of colleagues past and present to celebrate their retirement at St Paul’s Church Hall, Hanging Heaton.

Mrs Bromley, 69, of High Street, Hanging Heaton, said: “I don’t think you get this camaraderie anywhere else but a hospital. We’ve all been through good and bad times together.

“It makes you appreciate life more when you work in such an environment.”

Mrs Wood, 64, of Runtlings Ossett, added: “The medical advances are fantastic, but the best part of any workforce is the staff.”
