Homes evacuated after raid on Toftshaw farm

Police have been searching the farm since 5.30am this morning (Tuesday) after reports of a domestic assault at the Toftshaw Lane farm.

A 62-year-old man suffered facial injuries in the alleged assault and a 36-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

During the visit to the farm by police, a large cache of firearms – thought to be items of memorabilia – were found.

Specialist disposal teams are currently working at the scene to make the weapons safe.

A cordon is in place and it is thought that up to 18 people were evacuated from their homes during the incident.

A police spokesman said: “Wyke and Tong Neighbourhood Policing Team Officers are currently patrolling the area to offer reassurance and to respond to any concerns from local residents.”
