Hi-tech firm helps out charity in the garden

Hollybank Trust has enlisted the help of Cummins Turbo Technologies, which makes turbochargers for engines at its Huddersfield base.

On Friday, staff from the firm started their work on Hollybank’s 23 acres of land at Roe Head in Mirfield.

Over the next 12 months they will create a Victorian walled garden, a Japanese water garden, a sensory play area and tree-lined lawns.

Hollybank fundraiser Suzanne Barton said: “We always enjoy welcoming our volunteers to Hollybank, but we are particularly excited about the Cummins year-long gardening project which will help maintain our lovely grounds.

“Our residents make the most out of the gardens and grounds particularly in the warmer months and our schoolchildren often have lessons outdoors.”

Cummins staff do at least four hours of community work each year, but many do far more and will be dedicating large amounts of their time to Hollybank, which cares for disabled people.

Melanie Reid, from Cummins, said: “Carrying out community work helps to fulfil our corporate responsibility and our core values.

“Our employees benefit from the experience as much as the organisations they are supporting.

“They get to work with each other in a different environment and really enjoy it.”
