She’s been working at Hyrstmount Junior School and has been in teaching for 38 years, but Mrs Crines has decided to leave her post when the academic term ends next week.

To mark the occasion, the headteacher organised a fun day for the children last Thursday to say thank you for supporting her.

Mrs Crines said: “The best bit about the job is seeing how well the children have done.

“I have really enjoyed working at Hyrstmount Junior School and I think that is because it is a very happy school.

“The children are very keen to learn and very appreciative of the opportunities offered to them.

“I wanted to say thank you by organising something fun for the children and they loved it.”

The pupils enjoyed attractions including a bouncy castle, hook-a-duck, a penalty shoot out, coconut shy and much more.

They were also treated to crisps and ice pops.

In the afternoon, parents were invited to the school for tea.

Mrs Crines said: “It was an opportunity for me to say thank you to the parents and show my appreciation for their support.

“It has been a privilege to work with them.”

She added that she had found it difficult to leave after having made good friends over the years.

In her 38 years in education, Mrs Crines has taught in schools in both Batley and Huddersfield.

She previously worked at Carlinghow School and was deputy head at Purlwell Infant and Nursery School, before taking her current role.

But retirement will not see Mrs Crines putting her feet up.

She is planning on spending her time away from the Highcliffe Road school to travel.

Mrs Crines said: “Travelling is something I love to do and I’ve already got a trip booked to India for later in the year.

“I have a passion for being in the outdoors and walking so hope to be doing a lot of that and, of course, spending time with friends and family.”

Mrs Crines will officially step down when the academic term ends on July 19.

Former deputy head teacher Matthew Leach will return to the school and take over as headteacher.
