Hairy fundraising for Sam’s Wish

A little boy’s wish to walk is closer than ever to becoming a reality as two more events took place to raise money for little Sam Bottomley’s life-changing operation.

Sam, six, has cerebral palsy and needs an operation at Leeds General Infirmaryto help him walk independently.

The online total raised for the Sam’s Wish To Walk campaign has hit £50,000 after after a challenge in which four men lost their barnets!

Sam’s dad Stephen, Andrew Bottomley, Barry Kitchingman and The Pyramids hair salon owner Whal Kerim each shaved their heads at the Flower Pot, Calder Road raising £700 for the fund.

Sam’s mum, Karen said: “The weather had been a hot few weeks they each agreed the experience was ‘cool and liberating’!

“It was also an event for the family in that Sam’s Uncle Andrew, opting for the long-haired look, had not had short hair for 37 years!”

Sam is due to have his operation next month, but family and friends have further events planned to raise extra funds to go towards Sam’s post-operation treatment.

Farmer Richard Haigh and his family will be holding a fundraising party in a barn on Saturday at 8pm-late at New Hall Farm, Hagg Lane, Mirfield.

The ticket price is £15 with automatic entry into the raffle to be drawn at 11.30pm on the night.
