Groups get funds boost from One Community

The 2nd Liversedge Rainbows and the Society of the Blind for Dewsbury, Batley and District were each given a grant of £250 from the foundation’s General Fund, and from a Ponderosa Golden Goal competition held during the Dewsbury Rams versus Batley Bulldogs rugby match, held earlier this month.

For the Rainbows, the money will be spent on new craft items and badges for the girls’ activities.

The Rainbows’ Cathy Scott said: “This funding is a fabulous boost to our small group.

“We find it extremely hard to raise funds and we are all very grateful to One Community for supporting us.”

At the Society for the Blind, which is based in Soothill, Batley, will be put towards making new curtains for the day centre.

Local businessman and trustee of One Community Chris Battye said: “The foundation was established to encourage support for our own charities and community groups across Kirklees, so it is especially pleasing to be able to support these two local groups.”

One Community, which formed in 2010 to encourage local people and businesses to support voluntary and community groups in Kirklees, held a family fun day at the Batley Bulldogs’ stadium in Mount Pleasant on August 4, as well as the golden goal competition, supported by Howard Cook from Ponderosa, on August 12.

A total of £700 was raised at the two events, which will be allocated to the General Fund.
