Green scheme success

A GRANT scheme to help small businesses go green has helped 30 firms in its first year.

Kirklees Environment Vouchers help firms make long-term energy savings and reduce carbon emissions, with the support of Co2Sense.

Up to £8,000 of funding was made available to applicants provided the business matched 50 per cent of the investment.

The scheme was set up to help more Kirklees businesses take advantage of funding available by guiding them through the application process.

A total of 30 firms took part in the scheme, investing a total of £315,000, with each business receiving an average grant of £5,961.

CO2 Emissions across the district have been reduced by 645 tonnes as a result of the vouchers.

Cabinet member Coun Peter McBride (Lab, Dalton), said: “A total of £494,000 has been invested in low carbon measures across Kirklees through the grant, which is fantastic news both for supporting local businesses to reduce their energy bills and for providing business to local contractors.”

An additional £80,000 of funding is available for small businesses until the end of March.
