It will put a fully functional fire station and five storey training tower in its place.

Kirklees planning officers gave conditional approval to the proposals last Friday.

The new station is part of an £18m plan announced in December 2011 to help the fire service save £4m a year.

It includes replacing 10 stations across the county with five new ones.

The new Batley Carr station will replace existing sites in Huddersfield Road, Dewbsury, and Carlinghow Lane, Batley.

It will mean the loss of 24 jobs, but this is expected to be done through retirements.

Mirfield Fire Station is unaffected by the plan.
