Grave to be tourist attraction?

David Farrant, president of the British Psychic and Occult Society, has announced he is in talks with investors who want to make the grave a haunt for fans of the legendary outlaw.

The site is within the Kirklees estate, currently up for sale with Strutt and Parker for £7m.

He said: “The special place the tomb holds in the hearts of many local people is heartened by tales of ghostly sightings and chilling experiences from those who have made the pilgrimage to the grave, defying the vicious brambles, dense canopies of twisted trees, and watchful gamekeepers and guard dogs.”

Mr Farrant said in 2005 he and exorcist Gareth J Medway conducted a twilight exorcism of the grave – and since then he had received hundreds of letters from Robin Hood fans eager to hold their own vigils.

He said the group wanted to lease the area within the estate where the grave lay, and if successful, it wanted to provide safe access to it. He added: “It is time to put the Yorkshire Robin Hood on the map!”

Mr Farrant said ideas for the site included a better access road, a rustic guest house, a working local history museum and offices.

Claire Whitfield, from agents Strutt and Parker, said: “No offer has been accepted to date. We are not in discussions with Mr Farrant or anyone from his organisation.”
