Gomersal Post Office could get new home and longer opening hours

Plans to relocate Gomersal Post Office and extend the store’s opening hours could be given the go-ahead.

The Post Office is proposing to relocate the service, currently based at 301 Spen Lane, 450 metres down the road to McColl’s Retail Group at 247-249 Spen Lane.

The move would mean the post office would be more open-plan and open for an extra 65 hours per week. Services would run from 6am until 10pm Monday to Saturday and from 7am until 10pm on Sunday.

Suzanne Richardson, The Post Office’s regional manager said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Gomersal and we are confident that this new modern post office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

Customers are invited to have their say on the move, which is part of a nationwide modernisation programme designed to make it easier for people to access services, in a six week public consultation.

The consultation will close on 1 December 1. A final decision will then be made.
