Thirteen teams of four players will attempt six rounds of the nine-hole course at Hanging Heaton Golf Club in Dewsbury next Thursday.

They will race against the clock and their rival teams to complete the 54-hole challenge, walking 15 miles in the process.

The players from Ossett, Dewsbury and Batley will be aiming to as much as possible for Mary’s Wish and Kirkwood Hospice.

Michael Scott, one of the organisers, said: “It’s going to be a tough challenge but a lot of fun too.

“Hopefully we can raise plenty of money for these two very worthwhile causes.”

Mary’s Wish was set up earlier this year to help 17-year-old Mary Hinde buy and maintain a specialist wheelchair, while the Huddersfield-based hospice supports adults with life limiting illnesses throughout our district.

Teams made up of friends and work colleagues will pay £25 each to play and hope to collect more money through individual sponsorship and getting each of the nine holes sponsored.

The marathon gamee will be followed by a presentation evening at the club with a buffet and raffle.

Prizes on offer include tickets to a Manchester City home game, a round of golf for four at Oulton Hall Golf Club, and meals at local restaurants.
