Giving support to green belt fight

An action group fighting to protect Green Belt across the district is raising funds to legally fight their case.

Residents responded to a leaflet asking by Chidswell Action Group for their support by calling down to the group’s street stall and advice surgery where over £100 was raised in donations.

Group spokesman, Mark Eastwood, said: “Despite it being so close to Christmas we have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown by local residents opposed to Kirklees Council’s plans to destroy farmland and ancient woodland in the area.

“ Through substantial private donations we are now well over half way to raising enough funds to employ a planning lawyer. On behalf of the group, I’d like to say a massive thank you to all those who have contributed so far.”

The group will be hosting a pub quiz at The Huntsman Inn, Chidswell Lane, on Wednesday December 16 at 8pm. A public meeting is also being planned for January.

The group will continue to host their street stall and advice surgery at Shaw Cross playing fields on December 12 and 19, 10.30am-noon.
