Girls’ school celebrates bumper year

Teachers, pupils, students and families gathered to celebrate an outstanding year at Batley Girl’s High School (BGHS).

Monday’s celebration evening highlighted the school’s successes in this year’s GCSEs, an oustanding rating from Ofsted and a 100 per cent A level pass rate.

BGHS was the most improved school in Kirklees following this year’s GCSE results, which saw 71 per cent of pupils achieve five A*-C grades including English and Maths, and 99.5 per cent achieve 5 A*-C results.

The Birstall school’s value added score was 1033, placing the school in the top five per cent of schools in the country.

Executive headteacher Jackie Eames said: “It was a delight to see such a gathering of family, friends and colleagues at the event, all of whom had a vital part to play in supporting our students and ensuring their success.

“We are very pleased that so many former Year 11 students joined our sixth form to continue their learning journey with us in our fabulous new sixth form centre.

Certificates and prizes were presented to pupils and students with special prizes for pupils that showed outstanding citizenship and perseverance.

Guests at the celebration evening included representatives of the Rotary Club, who presented a cup for community service, Mayor of Kirklees Coun Martyn Bolt and staff from Cummins Turbo Technologies in Huddersfield and Warwick Road Junior Infant and Nursery School in Batley.
