Councillors on Kirklees Council’s planning committee have given outline approval to allow Mirfield Community Trust to build the centre on the Gilder Hall site.

Agent Andrew Keeling, of David Storrie Associates, said: “It was submitted in November 2010 and there have been a number of technical issues to resolve in that intervening period – things like trees, drainage and access.”

He said the 11 statutory consultees were all now happy to support the application. “Everybody is satisfied that a community centre here will be good for the people of Mirfield,” he added. Coun Kath Taylor (Con, Mirfield) moved the application for approval. She said: “It’s something we do need and need to try to progress.”

Coun Amanda Stubley (Lab, Batley East) seconded the application.

The meeting heard that the Trust had some funding in place but have been unable to apply for more because it needed to secure outline approval.
