She made a passing comment about her plan which was picked up on by the team at Les Enfants in Eastborough.

Dawn, of Wells Road, Thornhill, said: “They kept it very quiet and I had no idea at all. I just got a call from the manager, Lesley, asking me to pop in with Lucy.”

She said she was stunned to be given a card with the total raised inside.

“I was really overwhelmed. Everybody had really got on board, but to raise so much is just phenomenal,” she said.

“It means a lot. It’s nice for Lucy to have a brick in the wall. There will be a reminder of her place in the hospice.

“The charity has done so much for us as a family and it’s fantastic for us to be able to give something back.”
