Gary throws his weight behind charity

Former super featherweight champion Gary Sykes joined bingo club staff as they celebrated a new charity partnership.

Staff at Mecca clubs nationwide will not only be raising money for Carers Trust, but will also volunteer with local carers schemes and centres.

The team at Mecca Dewsbury kicked off its campaign with a pyjama party, raffles, lucky dip, karaoke and more on Valentine’s Day.

General manager Graeme Ewart said: “It’s very important to us to be at the very heart of our local community.

“Working with Carers Trust will offer us the chance to help the many people who dedicate their lives to caring for family or friends.”

Carers Trust,the UK’s largest charity for carers, works to improve support, services and recognition for people who care unpaid for others.

Its chief executive Thea Stein said: “The time and effort that employees at Mecca have pledged to give will make a huge difference to carers’ lives and the people they care for.” (d604a607)
