Two crews from Cleckheaton Fire Station were called to Kilpin Close, off Lobley Street, at around 10pm last night (Friday) after a scooter and wheeled bin were set alight.

The fire damaged the doors of four neighbouring homes, causing smoke damage in the closest house.

Watch commander Daniel Gledhill said one woman was evacuated from her home.

He said: “Hers was the closest house. She was in bed at the time.

“Fortunately the smoke alarm woke her and gave her chance to make her escape.”

Nobody was injured during the blaze.

A police spokesman said the scooter and wheeled bin had been pushed against one of the doors, but it was unclear at this stage whether the fire was started maliciously.

Enquiries are ongoing.
