Former Dewsbury Celtic coach Brendan Sheridan is being treated in hospital for coronavirus.

Sheridan is from Dewsbury and brother of Castleford Tigers assistant coach Ryan Sheridan.

He is a former scrum-half or hooker with Batley Bulldogs led Dewsbury Celtic to promotion from NCL Division Three last season and during the winter he landed the assistant coaching role at Oldham - as number two to former Batley coach Matt Diskin.

Clive Senior, chair of Dewsbury Celtic RLC, said: “We are all aware of the seriousness of Brendan Sheridan’s illness our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family at this time we wish him a quick and full recovery.”

In a statement on their website, Christopher Hamilton, chairman of Oldham RLFC said: “In his short time at the club he has become an integral part of what we are doing and is a real livewire.

“I have been in touch with him on a daily basis and it goes without saying that I hope all of you will keep him in your thoughts as we wish him a speedy recovery. I would ask that you respect his privacy at this time please.”
