The hospice supports more than 100 children and their families across Wakefield, Kirklees and Calderdale at its centre in Huddersfield and through a home support service.

The report said: “Staff were highly dedicated and passionate about their roles in caring for children and they placed children at the very heart of their work.

“Care was provided to an extremely high standard in a child-centred environment. Care and support was extended to children’s family members in a highly inclusive and holistic way.

“Families described the support they received as being like an extension of their own family and they valued the extended services, such as short breaks, bereavement support, siblings groups, play therapy, music therapy and counselling.”

The hospice was also rated as “outstanding” for being effective, caring, responsive and well-led and “good” for being safe.

Peter Branson, chief executive at the hospice, said: “The families we care for deserve the very best and we are thrilled that the dedication and commitment of our care team has been recognised in this way by the CQC.

“We will carry on doing everything we can to reach out to more children who need our support so they too can feel the benefit of outstanding care.”
