Football Shorts - Latest news from Arsenal, Man United, Man City, Barcelona, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich

Today’s gossip is looking like a case of papering over some pretty obvious cracks. Arsenal need a burly midfielder, Rooney needs to move and Monaco need to make a statement by signing someone from the Premier League.

It’s not often you get a world-class footballer playing in the Scottish Premier League, so the press understandably get their pants in a bit of a tangle when one comes along. Victor Wanyama, who is wanted by everybody in the whole world apart from Botafogo, Blackburn Olympic and the New York Yankees, is also on Arsene Wenger’s shopping list. The Gooners have not had a tough-tackling midfielder since Flamini left for Milan (Song? really?), and the Daily Star reports that the Londoners will reignite their interest in the Celtic man this summer.

Even though we’d secretly all like to see Wayne Rooney try his luck on the continent and do us proud, we all know deep down that he’ll probably remain at Man U this summer, but that hasn’t stopped Bayern Munich chomping at the bit for the 27-year-old. The Mail reports today that the Germans could well make a bid this summer.

Carles Puyol, 74, is looking a bit long in the tooth these days. Barca will be looking for a long-term replacement for the mop-headed centre-half – and could look to Manchester City’s Vincent Kompany. £20 million? Take it! (Metro)

Monaco, famous tax-haven and the home to Europe’s most inconsistent football club, could see a rather famous South American gracing its harbour this summer. The Mirror reports that Man City striker and part-time golfer Carlos Tevez is wanted by cash-rich Monaco. One problem though, lads, you first need to get out of the French second division!

If you’re sick of being told how great Gareth Bale is, skip this paragraph. Following his exploits against Inter Milan last Thursday, PSG have reportedly joined the queue for the Welshman. The Sun reported Spurs’ former transfer-man Damien Comolli saying: “When you leave Tottenham and you are a player like Bale, there are only three or four clubs you can go to.

“If PSG know the player is on the market - and there is a possibility - it wouldn’t surprise me if they did everything in their power to get him.”

In case you don’t watch the Football League Show until 1.30am every Sunday morning, there’s a fella who’s causing a bit of a stir in the Championship. Marcos Alonso has been central to Bolton Wanderers’ recent upsurge in form, and Celtic have joined the race for 22-year-old left-back, with West Ham, Stoke and Fiorentina also interested.
