Huddersfield Town recorded an impressive win over promotion-chasing Wolves at the John Smith’s Stadium. An impressive first-half display saw the Terriers take a 10th minute lead through Norwich-loanee James Vaughan before strike-partner Jermaine Beckford scored with an acrobatic effort on 27-minutes to help ease painful memories of Jordan Rhodes’s exit in August.

Wolves pulled a goal back after half time through Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, and continued to press, but Town’s defence stood firm as the Terriers climb to third in the Championship.

Leeds United saw their stuttering start to the season continue after an unconvincing display saw the whites snatch a 1-1 draw at Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

The Owls took the lead in the first half after Jay Bothroyd got on the end of a long throw to score his first goal in more than a year, before Michael Tonge’s late strike rescued a point for Leeds.

Bradford City seem to be coping well without attacking lynchpins Gary Jones and Kyel Reid after out-muscling Cheltenham to a 3-1 win. City didn’t have it all their own way, however, after the impressive Jermaine McGlashan was brought down in the area mid-way through the first half by Andrew Davies. The spot kick was converted by Marlon Pack, but only served to fire-up the Bantams, and their pressure was rewarded on the stroke of half-time, as City were awarded a penalty for Sido Jonbati’s handball, which was dispatched by the enigmatic Nahki Wells.

Wells was on target again early in the second half as he reacted quickest to a Zavon Hines knock-down, before Aussie full-back James Meredith capped off a wonderful team move by firing a half-volley into the roof of the net.

The win leaves the Bantams firmly in the promotion race in fifth place.

The fan who assaulted Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland on the pitch has been jailed for four months today. 21-year-old Aaron Cawley, from Cheltenham, claimed he was “too drunk to remember” the incident in which he hit Kirkland in the face before running back into the stand. Sheffield Magistrates Court heard today that Cawley, of Blenheim Square, Cheltenham, only realised what he had done when other people told him and he saw himself clearly on TV. Cawley, an unemployed labourer, was jailed for 16 weeks and ordered to pay £85 in court costs.

Meanwhile influential midfielder Gary Jones is back in contention for Bradford City’s trip to Northampton tomorrow evening following a back problem, but Kyel Reid will be out until Christmas with a groin problem.

Huddersfield are hoping to have Joel Lynch available for the Terriers’ trip to Peterborough tomorrow. Lynch is likely to be involved in an under-21s match with Barnsley this afternoon as the centre-half continues on his injury comeback.
