Firms clean up at business awards

A SPEN firm has been rewarded for its ethical business practices.

Flexitallic won four gongs at the Kirklees Responsible Business Awards for categories recognising the company’s commitment to supporting their community and the environment.

The event, at Cathedral House in Huddersfield, saw the Hunsworth Lane-based firm pick up the awards, which included first place for the Best Waste Reduction Initiative, and a special award for engaging with local schools.

Compliance manager Tracy Hellowell said: “We are delighted to have won awards in four categories which recognise both our commitment to reducing environmental impact.”

Dewsbury-based Parker-Racor also picked up five awards, for categories including education, pollution prevention, sustainable purchasing and transport reduction.

The motion control-specialists also camethird in the “Green Business of the Year” category.

Manager Ros O’Connor said: “The rewards we received are a fantastic recognition of the efforts that we have put into the programmes. We thank the local council for recognising this.”

The evening was compered by author and TV presenter Ian Clayton, and included a speech from Sir John Harman.
