And there were two calls answered during a two hour strike last night.

Assistant chief fire officer Dave Walton said: “The two hour strike period today has been fairly quiet, however, the last 48 hour period has been particularly busy for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.

“Whilst we have not attended any particularly large incidents we have been called to a number of small, but serious incidents.

“This serves as a reminder, if one were needed, that the risk to the community from fire and other emergencies is ever present. Both our regular crews and contingency strike crews have been tested and, as ever, have performed exceptionally well.”
