And West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) has warned people to be on alert during the worst of the bad weather, which is expected from around 6pm.

The Amber warning means there could be possible disruption including travel delays, road and rail closures, interruption to power and potential risk to life and property.

Conditions are expected to become very windy into tonight with severe gales or storms, wintry showers on hills and bitterly cold temperatures.

In windy conditions WYFRS typically sees an increase in calls.

This is often due to loose items, such as trampolines and garden furniture, causing problems.

Assistant Chief Fire Officer Dave Walton said: “The public can do their bit to keep everyone safe by ensuring these items are stowed away or properly tied down in high winds.

“We have had incidents in the past where trampolines have been blocking roadways and it can cause traffic havoc.

“In high winds also please take that extra bit of care when driving and consider whether your journey really is essential.”
