Finishing touches in place for the first Mirfield Fair today

The first ever Mirfield Fair will be held today and new flagstones have been laid in the grounds of St Paul’s church where the event will take place.

From 10am until 4pm, stalls will be selling quality produce, from organic vegetables and exotic olives to hand-made cheeses, artisan breads and delicious cakes.

Organiser Richard Hartley said: “This weekend is a culmination of many months hard work – but it has been worth it.

“Hopefully we will see more people on our high street, more trade in our local shops, more awareness for a great town.

“All we need are the local residents to come down and support us. With professional outdoor covered stalls and over half of it inside the church, we don’t even need the weather.”

Money raised at the event will be donated to St Paul’s and last week the paving outside the church was repaired in preparation.

Martin Ibberson, who has also been organising the fair, said: “Over the years this had become less safe which made it harder for the church to host events.

“This should allow them to go out and raise even more funds – but this was impossible without the support from Darren Brook Homes of Mirfield who made the repairs in advance of the funds being raised.”
