Organiser Father John Gribben will host the auction in March next year with his brother, George Gribben, who is a well-known auctioneer.

The lots include a 19th century book set about British birds and a similar set about British plants. Both contain more than 1,000 hand-coloured pictures. Another item to be auctioned is the cavalry officer’s sabre which bears the cipher of Edward VII.

Father John said: “We are very grateful to all our supporters who have donated items to date.We have an eclectic mix with several items of local interest.”

He also asked people to look around their homes for items to donate to the event.

“In every household there is a corner, a drawer or a wardrobe where there is something you don’t want,” he said.

“This might include broken watches, an old Meccano set, some children’s old annuals or James Dean’s jeans!”

The auction will take place Saturday March 29, 2014.
