Film academy wants scripts

The Co-operative British Youth Film Academy (BYFA) is looking for new works or a contemporaty re-telling of an old classic for three new movies due to be filmed next summer.

The BYFA gives 14 to 25-year-olds the chance to work on a real film set and be mentored by professionals from the world of film and education.

The initiative gives aspiring writers, actors and directors the chance to explore all aspects of the film making process and enhance their practical experience.

The BYFA is a co-operative of 20 colleges, including Kirklees College.

In April Kirklees College students got to attend a glitzy premiere in Manchester for the film they helped to create.

Filmed at Batley School of Art, Faust’s Growth was a reimagining of the classic play Doctor Faustus by Christopher Marlowe.

The BYFA scheme is backed by the Co-operative as part of its commitment to inspiring young people and bridging the gap between education and employability.

Michael Fairclough, the Co-operative’s head of community and Co-operative investment, said: “When opportunities, passion and enthusiasm collide it can be truly life changing and this is exactly the kind of exciting environment that BYFA creates.”

The new scripts will be made into movies during BYFA’s filmmaking summer camps scheduled for 2014.

Anyone can submit a script and BYFA is looking for a one-page synopsis with cast list and character descriptions along with a complete script and contact details.
