Simon Thirkill, who has been involved in Batley Festival for the last three years, said he wanted locals to share their memories of the town.

“Last year we had the competition of taking the poster all around the world but this year we want to bring it home and back to Batley,” he said.

“It might be your nan’s favourite place, somewhere you built a den as a kid or where you grew up.

“Batley has so many nooks and crannies and, of course, the more personal the better.”

The competition has three age groups categories – nine-13, 14-17, and 18 and over.

It runs from tomorrow until Sunday August 24, with one entry allowed per person.

Send your picture in jpeg format to [email protected] to enter.

It should include where the picture was taken and why in a maximum of 20 words.

The entrants name and age on the closing date, should also be included.

The judging will take place at Batley Festival, where the winners will be announced.

They will receive a framed copy of their picture as well as a winner’s certificate.

Everyone who takes part will also be given a certificate.

Mr Thirkill said his favourite place would be Batley Town Hall after he fulfilled a life’s ambition there to act on stage in Hi-de-Hi.
