Fancy getting hitched in a Mirfield monastery?

A CHURCH wedding might be traditional, but how about getting hitched at a monastery?

Couples can now get married at one of Mirfield’s most striking and historic locations. The Community of the Resurrection monastery started hosting wedding receptions around a year ago, but now it can host ceremonies too.

Services will be conducted by the Rev Maggie McLean from Christ The King.

She said: “The church is always trying to be alongside people at significant moments in their lives, such as weddings.

“It’s a fantastic building and a fantastic opportunity to worship in that way.”

Ceremonies will be held in the spectacular monastery chapel, which has room for around 120 guests and was recently refurbished.

Couples can also make use of the monastery’s picturesque grounds, which span more than 20 acres.

Monastery manager Guy Laurie said: “I have been pushing this for a while. The setting is perfect and we are very happy about having weddings there.

“It’s such a nice venue. It’s discreet, we only have one wedding at a time so the only guests will be your own guests.

“The grounds are stunning for photographs and the weddings will complement the wedding packages we do.”

The monastery has nine receptions booked for this year so the first wedding ceremony will not be held until 2013, but there has already been interest from couples wanting to marry there.

Weddings at the monastery, in Stocks Bank Road, are organised through events company Dine

. The firm’s managing director, Daniel Gill, said: “To be able to have a wedding ceremony there is a fantastic opportunity for people. It’s a stunning place.”

He said that since Dine had started organising receptions at the monastery, it had been getting around 60 enquiries a month about it.
