The poles are for the Wild West-themed South Pennine Boat Club open day and boat Rally in Mirfield next month.

Peter, who turns 80 this year, said: “I’ve had some weird and wonderful jobs in the past, but this is something completely different.”

Boat club commodore and rally organiser Peter Davies is eager to get the Wild West ambience just right for the open day fun and excitement, but admitted there may be a slight issue following the event.

Mr Davies said: “We are very grateful to Peter who has done a magnificent job. We now need to find a use for the poles following the open day festivities.

“Maybe a drama club or local school would be able to give them a good home.”

The open day is on Saturday May 2, 11am-5pm.

Admission to the event is free and there will be lots of entertainment and attractions including a rodeo bull, pantomime horse racing, boat trips, a saloon bar and the return of the world’s only handspike dance team.

Visitors are encouraged to dress up in a Wild West style and it is anticipated that several Buffalo Bills, Lone Rangers nd Billy the Kids will be there on the day. There will be prizes for the best under 16s outfits!

Anyone who is interested in having the totem poles after the event can visit the South Pennine Boat Club, in Wood Lane, Mirfield.
