Family pays tribute to '˜popular' Jonathan

The family of a popular man who died following a Friday-night incident outside a pub have paid tribute to him.

Jonathan Binns, of Ings Crescent, Thornhill, died in hospital from multiple injuries following an altercation outside the The Scarborough pub on the evening of February 17.

The 32-year-old father-of-one had been a regular in the pub on The Town.

Jonathan’s father, David Binns, said: “As a family we are still coming to terms with what has happened to Jonathan.

“He was a much loved son and dedicated father to his own child.

“He was also a devoted Leeds United fan.

“We would like to thank the local community for all their continued support.

“We would respectively ask for privacy at this difficult time.”

A total of nine people have since been arrested and questioned over the death, all aged between 16 and 20-years-old and all from the Dewsbury area.

All nine have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Dozens of bunches of flowers were laid in tribute to Mr Binns outside The Scarborough pub, while the staff also spoke fondly of him.

Manager Rowena Leather, said: “He came in every night at tea time and was a lovely lad and well like by everybody - he was one of the most well-mannered lads we know.

“He was polite and kind and never had a bad word to say about anybody.”

Joint manager Katie Leather added: “We are going to miss him, it won’t be the same without him in here.”
