Eve Moore, 18, has set up a social media account online which helps raise money and find new homes for stray dogs in Cyprus.

The former Mirfield Free Grammar pupil set up the account after she witnessed first-hand the plight of the dogs during a visit to the island last year.

She added: “Cyprus is such a small island and little is exposed about the treatment of animals there.

“I visited in the summer and went to some of the local dog pounds and made the decision to try and make a difference as there are very few people working over there in animal welfare. The pounds have no financial support and rely solely on donations so I wanted to help them.”

Her profile on photo-sharing mobile app Instagram now has more than 1,700 followers, and has raised more than £1,300 euros to pay vet bills for dogs in Cypriot kennels.

Each post to the profile features a dog and its back-story, as well as details about the dog’s personalities. She believes each dog’s story is worth telling.

Eve, from Station Road, Mirfield, explained about the dog she is pictured with: “He is now able to approach humans due to our care for him. When we found him he was skin and bone and terrified of everything.”
