Evangeline Holland, 19, from Cleckheaton, has been in Namibia for the past eight months, teaching children and writing for the local English language newspaper.

And now she is taking on the biggest challenge of all – a 130 kilometre bike ride for stray dog charity HaveAHeart.

Evangeline said: “Namibia as a whole has a huge problem with stray dogs, which then results in these animals being under-cared for or killed.

“HaveAHeart runs throughout different towns in Namibia and both spays and neuters stray dogs and those of poor families who can’t afford it to try reduce the number of stray dogs.

“This will improve the lives of these animals, slowly they are making a difference all across Namibia but they need to keep going.”

The cycle ride will take around her home in the coastal town of Luderitz. Evangeline’s father Darren Holland wants the local community to back their girl to reach her £600 target.
